The Forks Old-Fashioned
Fourth of July

2009 Schedule of Events

Forks Washington, Washington State
By George McCormick-Credits to the Forks Forum
The Forks Old-Fashioned Fourth of July is the big blast that launches the summer season on the West End. Between the Fourth and Forks Heritage-Hickory Shirt Days the first week of October, there's plenty to do in the West End.

The summer is full of activities, for a more detailed list

There are fishing derbies and cross-country hikes, bicycling and kayaking and rafting trips down our rivers.
You can hike the beaches, the rain forests for the mountain trails.

You can lay around and soak up the sun, settle beneath a cathedral of trees or visit the cultural heritage displayed at the Makah Museum or the Forks Timber Museum.

You can be as active or as inactive as you wish - it's all here for you on
The REST of the Olympic Peninsula.

It starts with the Old-Fashioned Fourth of July and extends year round.

The theme for this year's Forks Old-Fashioned Fourth of July is "Fun in the Park."

That can be fun in Tillicum Park during the Old-Fashioned July 4th celebration or fun in Olympic National Park during their 60th anniversary year.

However, we've extended the park to include all the West End and herein you'll find a driving tour that will guide you to the best of the Rest of the Peninsula.

The West End of Clallam County the Rest of the Peninsula - is a visitor's paradise. That means the more unknown western portion of the 0lympic Peninsula or perhaps it means that out here on the West End is a great place to "rest and recreate.

If you didn't see all of the West End this trip, come back again and again to enjoy its many splendors.

In addition to this magazine, the Forks Visitors Center has a Five-day Planner to give you some ideas of things to do. They can also help you with information that will make your visit more pleasant.

Logging tours leave from there at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday through September.

Summer is not the only time to visit us.

Avoid the rush - and the crowds - come back in the off-season to see the many moods of the West End from winter rains to spring blooms to sunny, warm Octobers.

The West End off-season is still an undiscovered country where you can roam at will and find peace and solitude if you wish whether you're in the forest, on the beaches or if shopping is your favorite pastime, you'll find unique shops, wonderful art displays, espressos and much more.

All the amenities are here. You'll find most anything you need in the towns, the byways and the highways of the West End from lodging to a variety of restaurants, from gifts to gasoline.

Come to get away or to be in the center of magnificent violence of nature. Winter storms are spectacular along the coast and some visitors come here just to be a part of them.

Beach combing is rewarding particularly following those storms.

Whale watching is another off-season sport when the huge mammals go north in April and May and south in September and October.

Many folks come to see us during the off-season so they can just kick back and take it lazy.

Whatever you seek, why don't you make it a point to explore the REST of the Peninsula during each season of the year.
